I think A good point was made here. Most of the pressure that Obama could put seriously on Israel/Palestine falters slighty becausw there is little support and awareness from the american people. They don't care much and don't see how it effects them. Most only watch the news on TV which does not talk about the world at all.

I thought I was just going to watch a few minutes of this and then move on. I looked at the time and I was 10 minutes in, and the time kept moving. To me, this debate was not dull. It was definitely enlightening to see those who were optimistic of Obama's foreign policy towards the Middle East peace process, go against those who were pessimistic of Obama toward the peace process. The added bonus was having the people vote who they felt made compelling arguments toward the end of the debate.

Anything that demands that the US take a moral and rational position which runs counter to the desires of the current US adminsitration, is a liability. And that includes a significant segment of the US population. Israel is important because Israel supplies the US with the bulk of its computer chip wafers, genuine innovation in that field, and essential technology for the US' missile defense and medical industries. The Russians now regret the emigration of a million Russian Jews.

No Israel is not important to us in the middle east. They probably were important during the Cold War days but now they are a liability. I do agree with you on this notion of giving Egypt and Saudi Arabia US tax money. All foreign aid should be put to a dramatic stop.
