Zurich, 2001 - The A330 has just taken off when a flame comes out of its left engine. The plane lurched, then continued his flight. This phenomenon known in aviation occurs when combustion of fuel can not be done inside the engine (not enough oxygen, water intake, ...). The engine may be extinguished, and must then be restarted in flight. AIRBUS A330

Stall and surge. Not what you want!.

An aircraft of this size could easily cruise with one engine, but not during takeoff and it would always need both for landing as it requires reverse thrust. Its like a single Boeing 777 engine could power a 747 with ease; but only while cruising.

@tabamoura well on aircrash investigation the all engines failed one it says a 747 can fly on one engine, but it can hardly ascend and yes it would have to emergency land but it can still fly straight on one

@bikeandscooterbasics First of all, who said anything about a 747? Second, As opposed to the A330 which has two engines, the 747 has 4 engines and if 3 fail, unless its very light, it can't remain airborne and will need to land asap. Now I never said the A330 won't fly on 1 engine. I said " the A330 is a big plane to fly on one engine only".
