Sacred Literatures such as Vedas and Puranas
describes: As the age of Truth (Satya yuga) is the best age, as the
Vedas are the best of scriptures, as the Ganges is the best of rivers,
so Kartika is the best of months and is dear to the Supreme Lord.

Kartika (Hindi: कार्तिक Kārtik or Sanskrit: कार्तिक[1] Kārtik, Tamil: கார்த்திகை, Bengali: কার্ত্তিক Kartik), is a month of Hindu and Bengali calendars, named after Hindu god, Karttikeya.

In lunar calendars, Kartika may begin on either the new moon or the full moon around the same time of year, and is usually the eighth month of the year. However, in Gujarat, the year begins on Diwali, so Kartika is the first month of the year for Gujaratis.

In solar religious calendars, Kartika begins with the Sun's entry into Libra, and is usually the seventh month of the year.

The festival of Kartik Poornima (15th day Full Moon) falls in this month, celebrated as Dev Deepavali in Varanasi. Other festivals are Jain light festival and Guru Nanak Jayanti.
