For-profit insurance company CIGNA denies Nataline Sarkisyan's liver transplant. Family and friends protest and raise hell at CIGNA. CIGNA changes its mind and approves treatment, but it's too late. With the transplant she needed delayed and the window of opportunity already closed, Nataline Sarkisyan dies.

It is ILLEGAL in all other industrialized nations for insurance companies to make a profit off of health care. We need to wake up and join the human race here in the United Corporations of America. We need Medicare Part E.... E for Everybody. Insurance companies do nothing but sit behind a desk and collect money. They just take your money and hand it to the doc, minus their cut for doing NOTHING. They don't put a freakin band-aid on anybody. Just blood-sucking leaches on the backs of society.

I had the pleasure of spending a few hours with the remaining Sarkisyans only a short time after Nataline's tragic death.  They are beyond amazing in the courage, clarity and sense of wanting justice in health care for all of us so that Nataline's death is not forgotten and serves some purpose though it is such a needless tragedy.

except that a liver tranplant is standard procedure for those who's liver is failing. it is only an insurance company that doesn't wish to make any payments would declare a medical procedure that has been widely accepted as standard treatment for liver failure for over 30 years.
