Seven weeks after Pearl Harbor, volunteers form the new 2nd Marine Raider Battalion whose purpose is to raid Japanese-held islands. The men selected come from different walks of life but have toughness in common. Under command of Colonel 'Thorwald', they're trained in all imaginable forms of combat. Then, after a perilous submarine journey, they face a daunting first mission: to annihilate the much larger Japanese garrison on Makin Island, in a lengthy battle sequence.

  • The US fought in three theaters - Europe, Pacific, and CBI - keeping themselves and the world supplied at the same time. The Soviets had only to defend their homeland. If the US hadn't had to fight Japan and only Germany, then there would be a fair comparison between the efforts of the US and the Soviet Union.

All sides had a critical part to defeating the Axis - that's why they called them 'Allies.'

  • Test ;D

  • @SmileyGarrish Yes, the Russian Red Army.

If you have a point, Smiley, why not make make it instead of acting like a parrot.

WWII did not end after Hitler was defeated.

Ever heard of ... the Pacific Theater?

Hint: The Russian did not drop the atomic bomb. The Russians did not have it yet.

A ground invasion of Japan would have taken months or longer, and I think you know who would have led that invasion.

  • @TonyLyndellWilliams Red Army.....

  • @SmileyGarrish

    Yes, I have.

I will state that comments you have made so far indicate your knowledge of WWII would fit in a thimble with room to spare.

    Tony

  • @TonyLyndellWilliams have you ever heard of the Red Army?

  • @SmileyGarrish With all due respect to our allies and their troops, all would have been overrun by Hitler without the United States.

It is indisputable fact. To deny it is simply nonsense.

As far as entering the war late, we were not attacked until December 1941 as you may know ... or not.

    Tony

  • @SmileyGarrish As one colonel told me, "The Italians were not fighters. They were lovers."

  • @TonyLyndellWilliams The Key to Victory? Mussolini attacks Ethiopia which then stalls his offensive capacity there so that he never assisted no less truly aided Hitler. Russia, Canada, India and others gave blood and lives per capita for in excess of the sacrifice of the USA (which required years to even enter the fight).

  • @TonyLyndellWilliams It's true, we Norweginas got alot of help from US after the war. Thanks!
