Free Grassy Narrows

2,500 square miles of forests, lakes and rivers north of Kenora, Ontario have sustained the people of Grassy Narrows First Nation for thousands of years. Now Weyerhaeuser, the largest lumber company in the world, is driving a wave of destructive logging that threatens to uproot their traditional way of life. This is their story.

Anyone remember "acid rain"? Back in the 1970s, ALL the lakes in northern Ontario, such as Lake Temagami and surrounding lakes, were without fish! They'd all been killed by this "acid rain" which came from pollutants from the USA.

Is this still happening? Laws made in the USA in the 1970s were supposed to stop "acid rain" from happening. But recent games by recent presidents where EPA protections get watered down, may likely have brought us back to "square one" again.

Hello i am curious though if you have any information about the logging operations taking place north of wilcox lake. Is it different because a native is on staff with the company or is it just too far to protest? I am not trying to be a jerk just curious thank you

i am curious about the planned logging roads going in this year in the grassy narrows area? if the natives are againist it so bad why are they allowing roads to be put back in at the same location that they protested in 2003? please respond to this if you know anything at all about it

I presume Pete is from europe originally ... that is your homeland - this Land is the Homeland of other peoples who we screwed over large, take responsibilty for the actions of your forefathers and what you do today - take some time to understand history before dropping racist comments
