A Single Shard, by Linda Sue Park, won the Newbery Medal in 2002. It tells the story of Tree-Ear, an orphan in 12th-century Korea who wants to be a potter. For James Kennedy's 90-Second Newbery festival, Madison Ross and Olivia Summerville Farrar, age 12, wrote this screenplay in Sijo poetry, a type of Korean poetry with strict form. Thanks to Linda Sue Park for supplying an introduction!
