Precision Taping's Aaron Arsenault shows you how to finish a knockdown ceiling after the initial spray.

The key is to wait until the perfect time before you start. If you give it a shot and you leave a line in the finish you know its too wet and will want to stop right away. Keep trying little bits at a time until it feels just right and when it does you'll be a pro; Just like Aaron.

  • omg please get a bigger blade

  • @Mik3Nobl3s I dont know if you noticed, but that was a 5 tier cathedral. Do you really think we used a 5" knife for the whole thing? no! obviously not. We used a smaller knife for demonstration purposes. So not everyone who does this can understand how to, and have a little more control over the finish product.

  • Hi randalljames1.

If you want a better idea on how to do a knockdown feel free to watch our tutorial video listed on our videos.

It shows pretty well everything. Just spray with a white drying mud, and wait and test every now and again to see when its ready to knockdown. You don't want it to wet that it will leave lines in the finish.

    I'm sure you'll do fine!

    Keep us posted!

  • Hi skidz4500.

The typical name for this type of ceiling is a knockdown or a California style ceiling.

I have heard some people call it an orange peel as well, so I felt it would be a worthwhile mention.

Also you are right about Aaron, he did not look professional at all i agree. Aaron was not a taper, he was simply a labourer for Precision Taping.

He happened to be very good at doing this type of ceiling however.

    Thanks for your comment.

  • its sad that the people are commenting about the look of the worker does it really matter? looks like he's doing a great job. I have been a general contractor over 10yr and some of the best workers I ever had looked like gansters straight out of the hood but I have never ever had a call back because there shingles blew off or there work did not pass inspection. BE GLAD A YOUNG AMERICAN IS WILLING TO DO CONSTRUCTION instead of some illegal and leave it alone.

  • No, you would probably hire the guy dressed in Polo's and kaki's then wonder why your 3 days behind on your project. But damn, your guys sure look good, huh.

He's friggen drywalling. Should he be wearing a suit and tie? Dumbass.
