These lines were quoted by Vinod Mehta in his book also. According to the book the actual lines written by Meena Kumari had the word 'daaman' instead of 'aanchal' and line 'maateN kaisii, ghaateN kyaa, chalte rehnaa aaTh pahar' wasn't there. These changes were probably made by her for the recording of this song.

I listened to this very ghazal in Meena kumari's voice on the radio back in the sixties, and remembered the words to this day. Only today I foud this voice again and cannot but be thrilled and be thankful to whoever loaded it here. love the poetry, and the voice more so. It is indeed the best of both the wolds.
