During our Big Read celebration of the novel True Grit, real-life U.S. Marshal Anthony Gasaway came to the Library to discuss the U.S. Marshal's Service and explain how the duties performed by True Grit's fictional Rooster Cogburn compare with those assumed by members of today's U.S. Marshals Service.

Gasaway discussed the history of the U.S. Marshals Service and the role it plays in law enforcement today in a program titled U.S. Marshals: A Popular History of the Nation's Oldest Law Enforcement Agency.
