The Nasadiya Sukta (after the incipit ná ásat "not the non-existent") is the 129th hymn of the 10th Mandala of the Rigveda. It is concerned with cosmology and talks about the origin of the universe. The hymn has attracted a large body of literature of commentaries both in Indian theology and in Western philology. The hymn is undoubtedly late within the Rigveda, and expresses thought more typical of later (mid 1st millennium BC) Indian philosophy.
The hymn has been interpreted as one of the earliest accounts of skeptical inquiry and agnosticism. (From Wikipedia)

  • This hymn is the most original hypothesis on creation which can be compared to modern big bang theory. BTW, The antiquity of vedas has been established as around 10,000 bc based on celestial events mentioned in taittariya brahmana. SayanaCharya (1315-1387) has stated that the sun traverses 2,202 yojanas in half a nimesha. This equals to 186,536 miles per second. THIS pre-dates Newton by 300 years. Pingala talks about binary numbers in 200 AD. Baudayana pre-dates Pythagoras by 3oo years

  • @sam7628 Any hypothesis in "Science" should be based on experimental findings. This hymn from the antiquity only poses queries or musings about the origin of universe. That is all they could do in those days ! Regarding speed of light, even if we conclude your calculations are right, the question remains how did Sayanacharya arrived at this? What experiments did he conduct and were they replicated by others? It could not have just occurred to him from the divine spirit !

  • Science is nothing but the confirmed knowledge; In this case Vedic Physicists came with a hypothesis of creation, which got confirmed 4-5 thousands years later by Hubble telescope and western physicists. Why this is not a science. We should admire these theoretical physicists of Vedas. Some people have difficulty accepting it as it came from Hindus.

  • @ajha55 This is no hypothesis of creation. And Hubble telescope did not confirm anything that is said in this hymn. there was no "theoretical physics " in Vedas. Vedas had esoteric sacrificial hymns and that is that ! There is no conspiracy against Hindus. During Vedic times there was no Hinduism either. Incidentally "Hinduism" is name coined by others who did not have roots in India. The term "Sanatan dharma" is more appropriate.

  • Basically none of you can understand the words of the Vedas, using your knowledge of Sanksrit today.

Those words can only by understood by penance, by tapa. Not by eating meat and speculating.

  • Nasadiya Sukta was the very first attempt of explaining Creation . What Vedic sages proposed in their hypothesis - " a concentrated point exploded and expanded due to heat", turned out to be right and have been confirmed by Astro-Physicists.

  • @thescorpionking2020 true as u said it.It is claimed that we need a radicaly new thought to understand pre Bigbang n so. My point is Philosophically may be Hymn are correct. But to say that they are better than our current research or current theories is ridiculous and blasphemy.

  • @SJisBack ya u r right calling it big bang and all this stuff is really making a mockery of d entire thing, makes u just look like a stupid creationist moron, should never do such stuff its very stupid, people should not make such claims, they are only laughable, its a beautiful hymn wich shows dat people back then were trying to make sense of the universe around us and they wer atleast not making up a retarded adam and eve like fairytale, they wer open minded about it,dats d beauty of this hymn

  • @thescorpionking2020 ditto !! I was going to reply or refute ajha55's claim. People are entitled to love the religion, but they should refrain from making grandiose false claim. As Galileo once said " religion should tell people how to go to heaven, not how heavens go!

  • @ajha55 this is no big bang theory my friend, but ya it was d earliest accounts of skeptical enquiry and agnosticism, wich means dat people who wrote this verse wer open minded and accepted d fact dat they dont know how d universe originated and didnt make up stupid fairytales unlike other "revealed" religions wich claim to do so,to me dats admirable but ya plz dont claim dats its big bang
