You could burn your house down. That relay is too small only 2A. Second it should be soldered to a board. You need a RIB relay rated for at least 15A. You can buy kits that use microprocessors to control it. Don't listen to that dude. People with a little knowledge are dangerous.

This is great for Halloween too. If you have one of those cheap light up jack o lanterns hook that up and get a sound file of talking or someone telling scary story so that the jack o lantern will light up with every word so it looks like it is talking.

This may be a dumb question, but does amount of power from the stereo matter? I have a big 200 watt receiver and I plan on trying to go directly from the receiver speaker wires to the relay and so on. Will that work if the volume is cranked up (to play music on other speakers) or will it damage the relay?

i just watched this on tv 88.7

Plug a speaker into a wall, just to plug it in again!

Where can you get these kits that you speak of? Would this setup be dangerous if I used it off of my surround sound (about 60w speaker output)

but didn't you remove the speaker? That means that you would not be able to hear what you were playing.

Im having a few problems...i have it all setup and working, only problem is the lights dont flash constantly to the beat. the volume is turned right up on my laptop and my speaker...both power cords are plugged in and turned up. i have a 3amp solid state relay...dont you think i need a bigger wattage amp to power the lights as these speakers i have have gotta be like 10 watt?
