  • is the trumpet the same guy who played pictures at an exhibition with salonen on another video on youtube?

  • It is indeed. He's the Philharmonia's Principal Trumpet Mark David.

  • It's funny how everyone becomes such an "expert" and "critic" here. I saw him in person last night and he's really something for being as young as he is.

  • I agree. I saw Dudamel conduct the Philharmonia a few weeks ago. As a non "expert" I thought he inspired the orchestra and the audience. It was an experience I will never forget!

  • @padredemishijos12 Toscanini's father was a tailor, not "a wealthy upper class european." I'm talking about his age. You're talking about his family's financial background. You're constantly changing the subject and not addressing my comments at all. "Slavery, plantations, extreme exploitation corruption, and violence" - is that all Dudamel represents? I'm trying to learn about Dudamel's musicianship and it isn't happening here. Dave, this conversation can serve no purpose anymore.

  • @TheStockwell No, you are wrong. Dudamel had his own orchestra at age sixteen! Toscanini came from Italy, the country of the Renaissance, Verdi, Rossini, and all the great composers of Italy and Europe. That was the envoronment that Toscanini came from. Dudamel came from the provences of Venezuela, a country plunder by Spain and the USA, It has a history of slavery, plantations, extreme exploitation corruption and violence. It is a testamony to the Bolivarian Revolution that produced Dudamel.

  • @TheStockwell How about Dudamel being from a family of limited economic means. Being from the provinces of Venezuela, and shooting to the top of the classical music world. Those conductors whom you mentioned come from wealthy upper class european backgrounds makes Dudamel and Venezuela all the more IMPRESSIVE. He must be thanking God that he was not born a Latino in the USA.

  • Es sorprendente que siendo Gustavo Dudamel un director de orquesta tan joven, sea a su vez, maestro de otros directores con mayor edad que él. ¡Viva Venezuela! ¡Viva América!

  • Oh my, this Philharmonia Orchestra is sounding like the legendary Chicago Symphony Orchestra under Solti

  • What an incredible experience this must be!

I really do feel for those young students - having Dudamel guiding you you've really gotta know your stuff!

  • @kuan12345 Man, I wish people would stop making a big deal about Dudamel being young. He's thrilling but most conductors are in front of orchestras by the time they're in their twenties. Toscanini was conducting entire operas when he was in his 20s. Heck, Lorin Maazel - you'd consider him old - was taking conducting lessons at 7 and conducted at age 8. What's impressive is the level of success Dudamel has had so far. But the thing about him being young is, seriously, not unique or amazing.

  • Always gotta have the conductors hair! :-)

  • Love this man's energy. This is just what classical music needs.
