Sampras, who collected 14 major-tournament titles before retiring in August 2003, talks to Myers about life after tennis, and reflects on the highlights of his illustrious career. The conversation includes the thought processes behind Sampras' drive to be the No. 1 player in the world, and a 1992 loss to Stefan Edberg that signaled a turning point. The Emmy Award-winning Myers also discusses what Sampras considers the low point in his career - Wimbledon 2002 - and the role his wife played in the climb from this to his final triumph at the US Open later that year.

Old Agassi was better then young Agassi. And you forgot to mention Hewitt (who beat Pete), Safin (who beat Pete), young Nalbandian, good shape Roddick, and now it is Nadal, Djokovic, Murray, Del Potro, Soderling...

I really question whether Becker, Lendl and Edberg would win against those players. In tennismagazine interviews, both Lendl & Edberg said, that today´s tennis is much faster. And you know what?!

It was Pete and the Bollitieri school who lifted the game.

  • @cain2335

Yes. And Roger never beat Borg, nor Connros or Laver....

Pete hit only one ace more then Roger, and though Pete had a pretty good 1st serve percentage, he could not beat Roger.

  • @ulizinho he beat sampras only one time. and sampras couldn't return serve good at all that day. and it's not like Federer crushed him; it went 7-5 in the fifth

  • @zzzzsh

dont forget that young Federer beat Kuerten on clay, when the brazilian was a top player and that he defeated Hewitt 6:0, 7:6, 6:0 when Hewitt was a big one, who beat Sampras three years before. Don´t forget that Federer crushed Safin & Roddick who surely would have won several GS titles in the absence of ROger.

Don´t forget that Roger had four consecutive finals in Paris of which he won one.

Don´t forget that ROger beat Sampras when Pete still had the potential to win a GS.

that is true, but Roger is nevertheless a superb player.

So is Nadal, so was Laver.

  • Totally agree with your comment...I met Pete in 2007 when at the Hall of Fame Rhode Island, he was so down to earth and such a humble and modest person! His sense of humour is fantastic too...we were chatting and laughing about stuff just a great guy as well as the best tennis player I have ever seen play! Best 1st Serve and 2nd Serve was the best too...& his record of 6 Years Ending as Number 1 in the rankings won't be beaten for a long time...that was the hardest achievement even Pete says

  • who was 5 years elder to roger who was as good as edberg and becker?? henman and moya??

sampras had to go thru edberg becker, mcenroe lendl...and his group

roger had to go thru old agassi, henman and his group

    ENUFF SAID

  • Rafa Nadal the best ever!!!! Sampras.....N2?

  • pete sampras is the best greeks keep on rolling

  • As long as Sampras still hold the record, Roger's fan should not say that he is second best after roger. By the way, tennis world nowadays is so boring.
