wait youy really have got to be kidding me. are you really telling me that gay actors are hard to believe when they play straight parts. that really is one of the most rediculous statements I have ever heard. like really. a.) being gay i kind of find that really offensive. if the actor is a good actor then it really should not matter what the orientaion they are.

when you watch a movie or a play you are looking at a character not the person. do you mean to say you don't belive Cheyenne Jackson's performance of Mark Bingham in "United 93" or Neil Patrick Harris on "How I Met Your Mother?" Will you not be able to watch the Sex and the City movie because Cynthia Nixon is in a relationship with a woman in real life?

Yeah, but you know it really doesn't work that way. Sexuality isn't nearly so fluid as you suggest, or everyone would identify as bisexual, and there would be no gays and lesbians. Straight people shouldn't play gay roles, it's just as unbelievable. People don't buy a lesbian in a straight role because they know she can't be feeling what she pretends to on the screen. And no one knew Rock Hudson was gay until way later. It's just how it is.

Haviland can easily pass, but knowing she is gay makes it impossible to believe this scene. I kept thinking that this was unreal, since she could never be attracted to him in reality. Think of Rupert Everett. Could you buy him in a straight role? Could you really? That is why he doesn't get offered straight parts.

When you know someone cannot feel what she is supposedly feeling on screen, there is no way to suspend the disbelief.

For example, now that you've heard Mel Gibson's racist tirade, can you seriously watch Braveheart and believe his character? Every time he comes on the TV, you can't help but think of that.
