Fan cam footage (courtesy of Bernice Fugate, thanks!) of live performance at Abaco's Oyster Boat in Lantana, Florida from 1993. Funked up version of the Manu Dibango hit.

Groove Thangs:
Down Pat - lead vox
Bonefish Johnny - guitar/vox
Jeff Watkins - saxophone
John Babl - bass
David Goodstien - drums
Bobby Groszer - keyboards

Since 1984, Groove Thangs have been making a name for themselves at home and on the road playing original funk, rock and soul music for the masses. Founded in Florida by Bonefish Johnny and his brother Down Pat with the help of other brother Michael and a slew of badass musicians (like Jeff Watkins, who went from Groove Thangs to James Brown for 12 years and is now playing sax with Joss Stone), Groove Thangs have forged not only their own sound but a special attitude about life and love that has endeared them to music fans around the world. After getting signed and dropped by a major label in 1989, Groove Thangs went on to successfully record and release their music independently, winning awards and gaining sponsorship while proving it on stage every night. Coming off the road in '92, Groove Thangs still perform annually (even touring Indonesia in 1994) and will be celebrating their 25th year of making funky music together!

  • I definitely remember shooting this - or attempting to shoot it in the midst of the Groove Thangs' mayhem! It was a friggin' mosh pit up there. I think I eventually got smart and climbed on top of the booths.

  • Hey Pat,

Don't know if you remember me but I used to book you guys @ Confetti/Reunion Room back in the good 'ol days.

What are y'all up to? Playing anywhere?

    Ain't no such thing..........

  • It used to get sooo hot and steamy in Abaco's when they'd do those shows, the windows would steam up. We used to bring a change of clothes cause we'd get soaked from dancing and singing with the GTs. The best was Dirty Harry's though. Glad they're on Youtube.

  • Kewl!

  • I think it rained inside Abaco's that night!!
