an aircraft carrier take 5 years to build, assuming PRC were to build 9 carrier, it would take them 40 years to have a fleet of 9 (minus the 1 they already built).

the new type 99 are comparable to Leopard 2, in fact they are powered by the same german engine, but Germany has way more tank.

I would like to know if have you ever been to China? China is one of those place that you have to see and experience to understand, since all the translated material are quite bad.

@akinkhoo na not even that long, carriers take 3 years to build, but chinese labor you can produce 3 at the max a year if you have the money. never been to china, my brother been to japan, and countries around china he said china is beyond belief of its size.

@otumak1 not true, only 3 yards is capable of building large military grade warship. beside you are not building just carrier, each must be supported by a minimal of a tanker, a supply ship, an aegis destoryer, an asw frigate and nuclear attack submarine. so you cannot possibly use all 3 military grade yards to build carriers. already 1 yard is allocated to building large amphibious ship like US's San Antonio class. China has other things to build than just carrier.

@lucasmaximusdecinus it take 3 year to build a ship, but a carrier? it need a crew, pilot and planes that can handle combat. making something float is easy, making it battleworthy isn't as easy. US can 'recycle' veteran crew from old carriers, China does not have such luxury.

you can't massive produce modern carrier unnoticed, you need skilled hands and specialized dock, and everyone in military intel knows there is only one such dock: no.3 at Jiangnan. you can't hide such a dock from spysat.

going under the radar is India, they will have a fleet of 3 carrier by the time China has 1. but neither India nor China will be a superpower within 30 years, it take a long time to build up, despite their size, they are still developing economy with a billion people living in poverty still.

at this point, they are still in need of more charity.
