Tropical storm Irene: Downed wires, fire and blocked road in Eastman Quebec

Route 112 was blocked around 2 pm Sunday afternoon during the severe weather warning due to tropical storm Irene in Eastman Quebec in the eastern townships.

You can see the downed wire arcing and creating flares of fire and electrical plasma. You can't really hear it in the video but each time there was a flare up you would hear a high pitched buzz. While we were there we saw two explosions however we did not have the camera rolling.

Locals who were present when the incident happened explained that they heard a large bang before their power went out. The flares were extremely bright, it was not recommended you stare directly at it.

@sofie1775 Sorry, I'm really not sure where that is. I'm not a news anchor or anything I'm just a regular person who witnessed this and filmed it in my hometown in Southern Quebec.... I hope that everyone you know in Alfred Canada are safe and sound

@signal6000 well then weather network did issue wind and rain warnings for my area ... we got lucky here and mostly got rain not too much wind I think the downed lines was the worse .... in my yard we only got swamped with water and a bunch of downed branches
