Having just listened to Joshua Bell I switched to Heifetz.
How DOES he do it? The hairs on the back of my neck rose....
Incomparable.

@vuth94 oh ok . but still , heifetz is amazing regardless .

@feuermannloveex3 Actually the reason is that this pieces calls for a mute hence the softened sound in addition to his playing in a higher position in the string, even then you can hear in his older performance when he was younger the sound was even more warm.

@huughjarse That's a beautiful thought.

@ccaammiiittoo1 - sorry for being a little maudlin, I was in a melancholic mood, and my mind drifts into dreamland.
Still love it though...!!

@huughjarse What a lovely post! So poetic! I digress to wonder whether Debussy was in love with la fille aux... The piece is so romantic, so lyrical. Yes, Debussy was indeed gifted, to put so beautiful an emotion to music.

Heifetz cared intensely about everything he performed.
His was a more visually restrained performance style.
He let the violin do the talking.
Josh is a wonderful artist and a terrific person.
