Six years after the United States led an invasion of Afghanistan to remove the Taliban from power and destroy Al Qaeda's safe haven, Afghanistan faces a growing insurgency that directly threatens its stability and the national security interests of the United States and its allies.

The United States and the international community initially made great strides to oust the Taliban and Al Qaeda and stand up the Afghan government following the invasion in October 2001, but the situation has dramatically deteriorated since 2005. The Taliban and Al Qaeda have regrouped in the borderlands of Pakistan and Afghanistan and are supporting the Afghan insurgency while strengthening their own capabilities. Although the current administration has portrayed Iraq as the central front of the "global war on terror," Afghanistan and the borderlands of Pakistan remain the central battlefield.

  • Quite right, Imacphee. To control the game, one must have a hand in both sides. Al-Qaeda is a creation of the Western intelligence agencies. With the collapse of the Soviet Union, there were no monolithic enemies left, so one had to created to justify grotesquly bloated "defense" budgets. It's a sophisticated variation of the oldest scam in the book, the Protection Racket.

  • @Shawntbell because the FBI wouldnt because they are the FEDERAL Bureau of Investigation. Which means they only handled US citizens tied to it. But the CIA would handle outside threats such as Osama Bin Laden.

  • @khankingpc

  • @ankureshkumar fuck gay kumar. • This was made before the election of Obama. Obama has been putting more focus on Afghanistan.

  • I think Pakistan is turning more troublesome than Afghanistan these days.

  • i agree

  • Osama Bin Laden and the Taliban have never been charged with 911. There is still no evidence that connects them to the attack on 911. Look at the FBI most wanted list. Afghanistan has nothing to do with 911, most of the alleged hijackers were from Saudi Arabia. We have been lied to about 911.

  • You may have something there wacker. One thing for sure we are being taken for a big ride by Bush and his big corporation butt buddies.

  • Afghanistani political situation is a merry-go-round of ironies! On one hand kick Taliban [so-called terrorists] out but on the other, put Northern Alliance terrorists in the gov't [ppl who've committed some of the most gruesome crimes against humanity]. Afghanistan is a lost case.
