I wish that everything that Charlie wanted would come to pass, but at the same time I do not. I know that my words seem insincere, however that is not my intention. While I myself hate these blights that are upon humanity I also reconignize why they are there. Without struggle there is no need for technology and without evil there reason for good to exist. These blights are here for a reason so that people may be able to look beyond themselves and look instead at others, for if not you then who?

@Gforcemember45 but the point of the charlie video was that we should aspire to push the good, to push ourselves to be compassionate- because there is no way for humanity to achieve the perfect world. (not yet anyways) and who knows, maybe the perfect world wouldn't be bad at all :)

@Toml420 Yeah ......and the dropping of a measly coin , assuages that guilt .

They BUY their "innocence "

And very cheaply , aswell .

All our clothes (our PCs were on now), are here at the expense of the OTHER 3/4 of the world .

Im not over in Africa Distributing Grain , And not trowing away my NIKEs in protest.

And very few people are .

Its REAL easy to sign a petition , or make a direct debit to OXFAM , but its a luxury.

We only do it as a Whim

the other 97 % goes to proffessionals and aministrators / flights + transport etc

Theres another factor .Have you ever watched someone drop a coin in a homeless persons cup?

Most DONT LOOK , dont make eye contact and NEVER stop

For most people it fullfills a patronising need

Bolsters their ego

THAT charity is self serving

I either IGNORE or make a point of stopping to chat

@olliephelan Politicians certainly don't, but individuals give to charity, to no tangible benefit to themselves - that's encouraging at least.

I dont even know if a sense of self is relevant .

When rescourses become scarce SURVIVAL will be the rule.

Thats what I mean when I say that Altruism only works when beneficial to BOTH .

We wont have the LUXURY to reciprocate kindness when LARGE numbers of people are going to DIE.

UN food programmes are UNBELIEVABLE jokes.

Theyre political photo ops.

We dont feed populations when its not in our interests

@olliephelan And in fact, the Lemmings throwing themselves off of cliffs is a myth, perpetrated by none other than Disney! They actually used a turntable to fling lemmings off cliffs for their documentaries, look it up!

@olliephelan Agreed, that's why I pointed out it was observable in other animals as well. When seen from the 'genes eye view' altruism, kinship and cell suicide all make perfect sense (I recommend 'The selfish gene'). And now that these traits are established in a global species such as ours, I think it'd be very unlikely for them to be selected away in the foreseeable future, which is why i believe humans will only grow kinder as resources become less scarce.
