Yakima Convention Center, November 10, 1989

On the occasion of its tenth anniversary celebration, KDNA paid tribute to Washington Senator Warren G Magnuson, who had passed away just five months before. Senator Magnuson was instrumental in helping KDNA to secure its construction permit and initial funding. He and his wife Jermaine attended KDNAs ground breaking. As the Chair of the Senate Commerce Committee, he was an outspoken advocate for public broadcasting and, in the Senate, introduced the bill that became the Public Broadcasting Act of 1967, which created the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.

We are sharing this video so that you will better understand KDNAs influential role in changing how Latinos and the Spanish speaking participate in, contribute to, and are served by public media. Before KDNA there was no similar programming available to the Spanish speaking of Washington State. It is unfortunate that the current management of KDNA is seeking to not only erase KDNAs history changing record of community service, but to also deny those services to future generations.
