This is my Motorola Modar Pulsar DynaTAC from 1994. It's in amazing shape and the battery still holds a charge for over a month. 1994 was the last year the DynaTAC was made. All DynaTACs ran on AMPS which is an analog band that was shut down in 2007. It's no longer possible to place a call on one in the United States or any other modernized country. Motorola bought out Modar Comminucations in the early 90's and that merger is what this specific model DynaTAC is a product of. It is the original thickness which is awesome. By the late 80's and up to the time they were discontinued, Motorola had made the Brick thinner by almost an inch. Not cool. The Pulsar DynaTAC was the only model to be original thickness at the time which made it pretty unpopular at the time and a rare phone to find now a days. Enjoy & check out the other parts to this series!

  • Did this have caller I.d? What was the price range, any other colors? I'm writting a book about the 90's and I want my character to have this phone. At first I was writting about the laste 90's(97) and I gave him a nokia 638, but I really want to make my book set in the 94-95 era.

  • Yea the 638's are classic. This phone didn't have any caller ID. It came in a few other colors: Black face with the same color siding/back and a dark gray face with the same color siding/back. I think they also made it with a black face and dark gray siding/back but am not 100% sure about that last combo. By 1994 these bad boys were only $8-900. Compared to their original price in 1983 of $3,995 that's a steal. What's the book called?

  • Actually, Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada and some parts of Death Valley, CA and Alaska still have analog towers up. Mexico and other 3rd-world countries still have them too in places. So the system is not totally gone. Just...repressed.

  • No way!! I thought they were totally gone except in some really crappy countries and islands where they need the longer range. Where did you get this info? I would take a trip to Death Valley just to use it. Just a long day trip away.

  • Hey I'll give you $25 for the brick? Message me for my phone number??? Make me a offer if your selling

    Thanks alot, chance

  • Sorry man, not for sale. Of course everything has it's price but I don't even think I could take $300 for this phone. It's pretty much irreplaceable because of the condition of it.

  • iphone 3g or this

  • @xytsdx2 Yeah, but you typed that comment 2 months ago and the way you typed it made it look like it was the year 2007. That is why I thought it was funny.

  • @pgdevil 2007 started a whole new era in technology, do I need to explain how? Cmon, you were around 4 years ago...right?

  • @xytsdx2 lol WTF?

  • Technology has really gotten much much better in 2007 :)

  • @MaxCadenasso Thanks for the link ;-) Today there's no analog cell phone service in Canada and also in the continental / mainland of The United States. The guy updated his site and said that analog cellular phone service was murdered in August of 2011 in Death Valley and Panamint Valley . Good idea to get a satellite phone for safety on the back roads.

  • @SeberHusky I want that link too. Please.......

  • Trying to remember the name of a phone I really wanted in 1998 or 1999, i thinks its key selling point was that it had voice control

  • You guys pronounce it Noh-keyy-ah cool in the UK we pronounce it no-ki-ah

  • @MaxCadenasso I haven't decided on a final title. This is one of my newest novels, still in the begining stages(only 10 chapters in). But thanks for the help I've been trying to get solid information about cell phones in the early 90's for weeks, this helped a great deal.
