  • Hi Gemini2022,

Lets break it down into bits lol

There's no difference between a Class A 255.255.255.0 network and a Class C network except for the number of subnets available for use..as you acknowledge. They are both a single network with 254 hosts according to anything on the subnet.

As for how computers distinguish between networks the short answer is they don't. That is the job of routers. All a computer cares about is whether the address they are connecting to is local or remote. clear?

  • Great job on all of the videos. I wish I was studying from your book (I don't know if you have published one) instead of THE ILLUSTRATED NETWORK by Walter Golarski. Thanx for the great teaching videos on I wish you to continue the great job you doing

  • :-) Sir, I'm a bit confused. I'm not able to understand from 4:24 onwards.

  • Stupid question but if you started out with 10.0.0.0 and you ended up with 10.0.128.0, how many subnets would be used? I'm not sure how there is a 0 between 10 and 128.

  • So let me get this straight:

    10.0.128.254 to 10.0.255.254

    10.1.0.1 to 10.1.0.254 to 10.1.127.254

    10.1.128.1 to 10.1.128.254 to 10.1.255.254

    10.2.0.1 to 10.2.0.254 to 10.2.1.1 to 10.2.127.254

    10.2.128.1 to 10.2.128.254 to 10.2.255.254

    10.3.0.1 to 10.3.0.254 to 10.3.1.1. to 10.3.127.254

    10.3.128.1 to 10.3.128.254 to 10.3.255.254

    and so on.....?

  • thank you very much SIR. for your step by step help for undrestanding this topic .......

  • Thanx.... Very well explained..........

  • Yes, awesome thank you! Great job on the vids btw, very informative. Will you be uploading anymore? What I would like to see, is a video that explains how to actually implement subneting. I’ve seen and read many tutorials on how to subnet “on paper” so to speak, but I have yet to see one that actually shows how it’s physically done. What type of router do I need? How do I configure it? Is configuring needed on a server? If so, how and where? those questions still remain. Keep up the good work!!!

  • What is the difference between a Class A network with 16 borrowed bits and a Class C network? Both have a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0…I know one is dealing with 65,534 networks and the other is just dealing with 1 network; but how does the computer distinguish between the two?
