If you live in Melbourne, Australia and you like funny comic books, consider showing up to COMIC BOOK FUNNY, a series of sessions celebrating Australia's independent comics makers. It's on every Saturday during the Melbourne International Comedy Festival; 5pm, Bella Union bar at Trades Hall (corner Lygon and Victoria St, Carlton).

Week one (Sat April 4): a genteel exhibition launch and informal comics salon, directed by Mme Josephine Waite. All welcome. Plus, live drawing of hot male cartoonists for a calendar we're launching in week four.

Week two (Sat April 11): a very special Intimate Conversation between long-awaited interstate guest Gerard Ashworth and local comics broadcaster John Retallick (http://thecomicspot.blogspot.com/).

Week three (Sat April 18): Pat Grant (http://www.patgrantart.com/) and Brisbane's Patrick Alexander (http://www.chickennation.com/) discuss the merits of dirty comics with host David Blumenstein.

Week four (Sat April 25): Bernard Caleo launches THE SEXY MEN OF AUSTRALIAN COMICS 2009-2010 FINANCIAL YEAR CALENDAR, featuring twelve hot male Australian comic artists as drawn by female Australian comic artists.

  • i hate people that do that while im drawing because it ruins the suprise when they see the drawing when its finished and the constant "are you drawing pokemon?" question sheesh don't get me started. 5 stars because i can relate to this.

  • every time i draw, people always ask me, "wut r u drawing? Pokemon?" It does get annoying. lol

  • Omg yes.

I hate the question "Can you draw me?"

OF COURSE I CAN, BUT I RATHER NOT!!!

And the "Do you watch Pokemon?" question also pops up a lot...

And the comment "I can draw better than that!" is just... OARJAKMDKA

When people ask me to draw them, I usually ask them when I can expect to receive payment XD

I can take critique... But only if I know that the critic can draw/is somewhat more intelligent than the average person. Otherwise, no.

  • the pen is mightier than the sword

  • "Do you draw Garfield?"

  • In other incident, I once was observing a girl a little too obviously, while sketching her. Her boyfriend walked straight up to me and warned me to take my eyes off her! LOL! :P

  • Hahahaha!! I swear it gets fucking annoying! I remember doing some live sketches to study drawing once and this dude sees me doing that, takes my sketchbook and shows it to his friends, and they keep flipping through the pages for half an hour. WTF!! And of course the requests to draw them were there too! Just too annoying.

  • Oh dear god I can relate to this.

  • This is so true!!!!!!!!!

  • I CAN RELATE TO THIS!
