Focus
Focus shows where inputs (keyboard & mouse) have an effect. That means what has active attention. For example, open Inventory, and you can see what has focus by the subtle orange highlight. The orange outline and blinking I-beam means the text field has focus, and can be typed into. If you then click into the chat bar, the focus will be in the chat bar. The Inventory window will then turn transparent. The focused window is opaque (there are some exceptions, like Mini-Map). If you are having problems controlling your avatar and you are trying to use the letters "w" "a" "s" and "d" to move, the chat bar may have focus, and you may be typing in the chat bar. Try closing the chat bar. If you want to move around with the chat bar open, go to Edit menu -- Preferences -- Text chat and Enable "Arrow keys always move" so they control your avatar instead of text. Now you can talk and walk simultaneously.

You'll have to download the client to play it, of course, and it's free to play but there are some features that you have to pay for.

You can quickly restore focus to in-world by pressing the "Esc" key. If you're trying to move around using WASD and find that you can't because focus is on your chat bar, your inventory, a profile, the Find dialog, or any number of things, just tap "Esc" and that'll set you free. Alternatively you can click anywhere in-world, but I prefer Esc.
