This is my 3rd kyu examination in Jan de Jong ju jutsu, which has evolved from Tsutsumi Hozan ryu. For a history of our style please check out www.jandejong.com.au These attacks all have assigned techniques for the defence, but the uke's are choosing the attacks at random, so your reflexes are examined as well as your technique. This is how the de Jong sensei graded in the 1920's when he learnt the style in Indonesia, under K. and S. Saito

  • Look to be fair to you. The (uke) attackers need to be able to understand how to attack distance~timing~ above all not telegraph their attacks.

  • Ok that's something I can agree with. Can I ask how long you trained/who you trained under? (serious question, not taking the piss). Cook sensei is attacking for my next grading so hopefully he'll put up more of a challenge. Cheers for the comment

  • @tonic006 I trained and graded under Shihan De Jong and his senior students since 1984.I still trained now.I hope your not taking the piss out of me. I would be impress if Cookie was attacking for purple belt reflex.

  • Not at all mate, was just curious...I know there are a number of instructors out there. Like I said, I agree with your comment. If you have any other feedback feel free to post it, I'd be happy to read it. Cheers

  • I remember the days when the gradings were more intense and the pressure would genuinely test your reflex its amazing how times have changed.

  • So you enjoyed this or you feel the intensity needs to be raised?
