How can anyone be nasty about Edita? (like riccardo699 ) She is such a talent, one of the greatest coloraturas ever whose voice seems to last. Hope she will continue to sings like this for a long long time brava!

I totally agree with you. There are aways people who dislike her voice or way of singing, but all in all there is no huge difference in tone between nowadays and the 80's. If she does not fit your taste that's fine with me but all this rage "Stop singing, you look like an old hag, etc." really disgusts me!

Edita certainly got better. Maturity and depth of expression is something that grows on gifted and talented artists that youthful technique does not reach. Her ability to sing thus (and to match with soulful acting) is in itself a miracle.

wenn man die gruberova in dieser inszenierung life gesehen hat, muss man einfach begeistert sein. sie entwickelt den charakter der lucrezia bis zur gebrochenen frau am ende nicht nur darstellerisch, sondern auch stimmlich.

aus der früheren gesangsmaschine wurde eine echte sänger-darstellerin.

ich fand die aufführung jedenfalls grosse klasse.

stimmlichen schwächen ganz am ende der rolle stehen doch eine grandiose darstellung und das nicht mehr ganz jugendliche alter der primadonna

Wer bitte sagt Frau Gruberova das es schon lange Zeit ist abzutreten. Schauspielerisch hervorragend, gesanglich eben eine Altersstimme, die den Charakter der Person nicht mehr transportiert. Die Jubelarien über ihre jetzigen Stimmleistungen sind völlig unangebracht. Gilt auch für die Norma. Aber dem üblichen Elogengeschwafel ist eigentlich nichts hinzuzufügen als das man einem Massenpublikum so ziemlich alles verkaufen kann ist pressemäßig nur genug Vorarbeit geleistet worden.

that's Steven Humes (Gubetta) who studied at the music conservatory of New England & Boston university. Since 2003 an ensemble member in Munich.

This opera is really addictive. And Alice Coote really rounds off such a good cast.

63 is correct! Some singer in their 30's wish they sounded this good.

My partner met her some 15 years ago when she was doing Il Puritani in Vienna. He was making a TV biography of Domingo at the time. Hearing Edita singing Qui la voce in rehearsal was a magical moment to him. She was also very sweet and unasuming when he spoke to her.  To me she took coloratura to a new level, a level for any young coloratura to aspire to. (and how very few will ever reach that level, regretfully.) To me she looks absolutely great.
