  • I have noticed from my experiments, adding hydrogen peroxide to the vinegar/salt mix helps breakup the copper faster and makes a thicker, brighter plating.

4 parts vinegar, 1 part hydrogen peroxide, and half a tablespoon of salt.

  • Yes, my method i admit works better when your plating with tin. Buy some non-lead solder in homedopot or something (probly like 95% tin 5% silver) it plates with a very thick coating in like 5-10min. I also plated with lead (toxic) and silver, all worked with just vinegar and table salt.

    thanks

    kev

  • yeah tried out with vinegar and salt.. work awesome :D but for a better finish i say using dissolved copper sulphate... it's pretty cheap (10$/kg) and you need roughly 10 gramms to plate a coin for example.. it's a bit toxic but if you wear gloves and don't drink it u will be fine ^^.. i used a car battery charger in my experiments and it is awesome :D keep up the good work , 5/5 stars

  • If you use vinegar you can take the liquid that remains and evaporate it to get copper compounds(crystals) that you can use in future experiments.

    Thank you for your interest.

  • nice :D used water at the beginning but that got full of dissolved copper and i threw it all away :)) anyway thanks for this info i might use it in my future experiments

  • pour as much vinegar as you need then put as much salt in the mixture as you can(until it doesnt take anymore)

    works well.

  • how much vinegar to table salt,????? this is very interseting 5/5 .

  • believe it or not, it was vinegar deluted with table salt. worked extremely well

  • Whats the sulution in there, or chemical name?

  • the copper from the thick peice of wire is disolved into the solution and deposited elecrically onto the silver coin.
