sikhs are neither muslims or hindus.
we respect humanity as one race..
we are here to serve humanity at large
any person of any background (faith sexuality gender etc) will be given food, shelter and protection in a sikh gurdwara.
we believe in one god and serve god by serving his creation.

in this video sikhs are doing a punjabi culteral (not religious) dance called bhangra.

  • If this a vaisakhi nagar kirtan, then what is wrong with it. The real meaning of Vaisakhi has to be learned, it is a part and parcel of the sikh culture, the GURBANI states: NACHNA TAPNA MAN KA CHAOYA, which is self explaintory, meaning BHANGRA FOLK DANCING is NOT forbidden, as per gurbani states, it is very much a part of the sikh culture, especially at VAISAKHI. its not dirty dancing or rock and roll, reggae etc is it?

  • Bhangra should not be done in the presence of Gurbani Shaib and sadhsangat. The sanctity of Gurbani Sahib should be respected at a Nagar Kirtan. Vaisakhi to a Gursikh is a very sacred celebration therefore Gursikhs celebrate it in a sacred way. Punjabi’s value the cultural side of vaisakhi – which is fine, however, bhangra should be saved for vaisakhi mela’s.

  • Well the meaning of Nagar Kirtan seems partially different with respect to what we see these days. Even majority of even Sikhs is still into false rituals, concentrating just and just the physical handling of Dhan Guru Granth Sahib, instead of going through the real jewel of Shabad inside.

  • Kirtan comes from kirti (praise of god). It is an old sanskrit word which has its roots in indians' faith in god. Nothing else.

  • @Zeeatwals Veer jee, I apologize for correcting you, but gurbani says "Nachan Kudan Man Ka Chao, Nanak Jin Man Bho Tina man Bhao." If you read the whole stanza in Asa Dee Vaar, Guru Sahib jee explaining People dance for money and they act out their religion.

Please don't use Gurbani in a wrong way to support Bhangra. Gurbani DOES NOT support bhangra. If you do some research, there is a whole play of our mind going on.

  • confused desis...

  • I'm confused..... Kab raj karega kalsa??? No racism pls

  • nagar keertan is a sikh march

not a sikh dance or punjabi culture show

  • i completely agree with u! this is an outrage! However im surprised the committee let them dance! This takes the true meaning of Nagar Keertan away!
