If you used the default installation that it would take over an entire disk (or partition) while setting some aside for swap space (like "paging" in Windows). The swap space set aside is usually in the range of 1.5X (times) to 2X the amount of installed RAM.
im actually annoyed by this feature. is there a way i can disable it?

How big did you make the ubuntu partition? Have it 5GB or more to be on the safe side, plus 256MB minimum RAM. (512MB recommended)

Cross platform, else they themselves wouldn't have advertised it. Maybe you have to drag it onto the desktop.
