AMERICAN SCARY is a look at the nation's tradition of horror hosting, from Zacherley to A. Ghastlee Ghoul. With interviews and footage from major hosts from the 1950s to the present day, such as Zacherley, Vampira, Ghoulardi and others, along with memories from celebrities and fans who were influenced by these hosts, you'll follow this American folk art form from its glamorous beginnings, through repeated waves of popularity in the 1960s and 1970s, to its scrappy resurgence and survival in the current age of cable access and the Internet. American Scary looks to remind people how much fun local TV could be -- and maybe could be again.

  • Anyone in The NY area remember "Chiller Theatre" ? No host but the intro was a claymation type hand in a swamp (with six fingers) and it would put the letters for "CHILLER" in the front before taking them away and sliding back into the swamp....... (please someone remember this besides me, my therapist is counting on it)

  • @FunkyBeerLover I am old enough and remember alot of these hosts and hostess's and it was always a blast watching and then comparing notes in school or at the playground. It didn't matter if the movie was awful lol.

  • Whoops.... we also had Baron Damone on another channel From Syracuse, NY. He was blast to watch.. nice to see him once again.

  • Grew up watching "Monster Movie Matinee" on Syracuse NY channel 3. They had Dr. Witty and his assitant on Saturday afternoon, it's nice to see them again in this movie!

  • this is boring

  • I liked this movie a lot too :)

It's like a history book of horror hosts

  • Leonard Malton's chair is sooooooooo gay !!!!!

    but then.... well.... you know.

  • Being too young to remember or have seen most of these shows I found this movie very interesting. I think there would definitely be an audience for this type of thing today. Good watch. 10 out of 10.
