Found the video it is by SoCalPreppers...he found a way to get the air sucked out of a mylar bag. I hope this helps you in you sealing. :) I just searched for vacuum seal mylar bags and his was the second video. :) Please let me know if this helped. :)

Thanks for the great info! Looking to buy a sealer to bag my own backpacking food. Have you ever tried the stand up sealers? Versus the one that you have that lays down. Any particular brand you recommend?

@CatchJanice I have not used the stand up kind. Check out brooklynprepper who does use the stand up version...tell him I sent you. I have a 'FoodSaver' that I bought on Ebay. It had been in a charity thrift store and had never been used. I've never had a problem with it.

late getting here, but this is exactly what i was trying to find out. trying to seal jars mostly, and even found a vid abt using manual break liner bleeder (cheap), that would work w/out power. free jars are my motivation;-)

Just wanted to know about the mylar bags. While doing a little research on You Tube I found a person who was able to use his foodsaver to suck the air out of the mylar bags by taking on of the thin cutting boards and cutting off an end that fit from the air channel to before the heating element and used a heating iron to score the plastic. He would thenput it int he open part of the bag and stick it in the air channel so that there was a rough spot. I will try to find the video and send ito you.
