Footage taken of the runway and hangars from the front of the "H" style 3 story barracks 430. According to Google Earth ( Lat: 26°16'19.46"N / Long: 127°44'51.91"E ), this barracks no longer exists. Just a green grassy field now.
The 4 story "H" style barracks to the northeast is still there.
that looks alot like where 431 is right now, I lived there twice. And yes refurbished in every sense of the word. but the Japanese gov pays for alot of it so that when we relinquish the bases to them, they arent stuck with Sh&% holes.
The only diff I can recall on the outside between Bks 430 and the one next to it (431?) was that Bks 430 had only 3 floors and the other had 4 floors. Both Bks even had the same key for the same room #. A "drunk" Marine visited late one night, using his key from the other Bks but same rm # to get into my rm. Thought one of my roommates let him crash there for the night, but they didn't know the guy. He stumbled out into the hallway where he found an unlocked room and went in. Their problem now.
"Refurbished" just in time for moving the Marines to Guam. Isn't that just like our government, finish something that needed doing a long time ago and then abandon it?
Who knows, one of the refurb barracks might become the next Futenma "Hilton" hotel (which the Okinawans will own when the Marines are shipped off the island).
I hold nothing against the Okinawans getting their land back, but to coin a phrase, "The tribe has spoken", and we have been booted of the island, lol.
@xn4jv3 Sounds like the guy in the laundry room on the floor on a sunday morning. I stepped over him as I put my clothes in the washer, and woke him up. He asked me where he was, so I told him Bks 417. Actually I said Yon ichi nana, and he staggered his way out across the parking lot to his place. Just a normal occurance, didn't think twice until the duty asked tactfully who pissed in the trash can on the 2nd deck laundry room. I took the blame so we didn't have to track that guy down.
