MaasSluis
Recorded in 2002
In 2002, Ivo Selder (percussion) and Matthew Florianz (synth), assisted by Stan Linders (keyboards/logistics) and Bill Brisette (guitar) made a recording called openstage.
Central to the atmosphere and "sound" of the recording, is how it was achieved:
Matthew Florianz's keyboards are powered by a large car battery and the sounds are amplified through a connected car stereo with large speakers attached.
Ivo Selder's acoustics drums and Bill Brisette's travel guitar are mixed with the sounds of the environment and speakers, creating an interactive sound field where each element is equally loud.
The settings in which we'd perform our "public" concerts where also carefully chosen with busy surroundings creating an ebb and flow of rhythm, ambience's and noise.
Integral to an openstage recording is the environment which plays like an invisible artist, dictating the beat and mood of the music.
Some distance away, a microphone records the blend of the music and the open air setting.
This video recording was made near marker 1015 on the bank of the Dutch River; Maas. It connects the busy harbour of Rotterdam with the North Sea.
The image is recorded with the camera looking towards the southwest from the channels northern bank.
Matthew Florianz plays the synthesizer while Ivo Selder plays on percussive instruments, just off screen to the right of the recorded picture.
ambient per excellence
