I think alucard2029 really hits the mark on how awkward it was for the Western release to replace this animated sequence with the 2nd one already. As he said, it was weird how you start watching the series with an OP that mainly shows Wing Gundam being chopped and shot up. As I recall the 2nd sequence came out after Wing got scrapped, hence its peculiar nature. Now as I remember G Gundam also had an original OP removed in the Western release. If I can find it as well....
