is that his hair, or synthetic hair or human hair braided into his hair? The ends look burned.

It's synthetic hair. The style would not last long without it. And yes, the ends of the synthetic hair were burned to seal the braids. We prefer hot water sealign normally but there is no way to do that with short braids like that.
