"I was really happy. I remember ... when I have heard it, I was in Cambodia at the set of the new film of Detlef Buck 'Same Same But Different'. And in Cambodia you are a bit ... how should I say ... far away from the Western civilization. I'd never expected it and ... I was totally shocked and happy."

David about his career:
"I have always thought ... I will never ... like ... drift away, or I will always stay down-to-earth. But there is always the risk, and you have to be really careful in this business. I delve sometimes ... too deep into my roles ... and ... try to ... make it. And I think ... I am ... only thinking about it ... and I do not listen anymore to any other, or things like that, when I meet some friends. But ... they usually are honest to me and point it out. And that's good."

David about 'The Reader':
"It was always a very easy atmosphere at the set. It was never like that you've thought: Wow, that's a big Hollywood production here! and: Wow, they make really big movies here! But they all were ... working very ... intensiv and ... were very concentrated and very... They were simply great people who know exactly how to do their job. And that was ... that was ... really a gift to watch them at work."

David about his current life:
"Well, lately I have been working pretty much. And therefore I wish a bit ... to ... to have a short break now ... and that I can have a short rest ... and that I can see what I will do next."

Thank you so much for the translation. Wow, word for word translation, even the "fillers" like "to...to..". Does he sound eloquent in German interviews? He doesn't in English but I always assume it is because of the language. I like to think of David as an intelligent and articulate young man. :D

Yes, David sounds eloquent speaking in German, he seems to be really intelligent. But he is always trying to pick his words well-concidered and you can see that he is not used to give interviews. And thats it what makes him really fresh and likeable and gives him his cute 'boy next door' manner. In English the vocabulary is missing, that makes it difficult for him to find the right words.
