On this week's Devils Advocate, Jon Caldara goes one on one with Reason Magazine editor-in-chief Nick Gillespie. Nick gives his take on the emergence of new media and how his Reason.tv is leading the charge and the growing libertarian - conservative riff. With Jon's encouragement, Nick pulls no punches when discussing his distaste for the nanny state or why conservatives and libertarians should wear leather jackets.

  • Don't worry Nick, I'd do ya.

  • Holy shit! He's not wearing his leather jacket!

  • The Italian horn is just a good luck charm, to protect against bad luck/evil spirits. At least that was what it was for older Italians, now it is kind of an Italian pride thing for younger Italians. It is basically the Italian equivalent of what the four leaf clover was for the Irish, used to be for superstition (and still is for some older/traditional folks) but is worn more now for national/ethnic pride.

  • Reason helped save me from liberalism

  • @AKlover Its charcoal, that's basically black!

  • Jon is right that the libertarian side does not usually focus on the sob stories. Unfortunately, telling the sob stories seems to be necessary to affect change. I think it is embarrassing to have to make things about a one sad situation instead of simply winning on pure logic and mechanism.

  • @daPlumber702: Washington state GDP (in millions): 351,100. Sweden GDP (in millions): 455,848. Norway: 414,462. Finland: 239,232. Scandinavia total: 1,109,542. Not quite, buddy. Only three states in the country have a higher GDP than Scandinavia

  • Reason Magazine helped save me from conservatism.

  • @goPistons06 well that's one of the poisons, next to the Lisbon treaty and forced multiculturalism

  • Nicks not wearing black? Laundry day?
