i consider myself a geek, but i wouldnt stand there, until midnight just to pay for a new windows ^^ i got my windows 7s (pro 32 and 64bit) somewhen in september 2009 via MSDNAA completely free :D

Like icybergie said, In Japan, many people has high-end computer.
And Japan has large homebuilt-computer market.
Well, to put it simply, they are geeks, that's why many people waiting to buy new OS at mid night.
Most of Japanese people likes newest products.
I also got a Windows 7 on 10/22.
