  • The duct should either be painted black or insulated..

  • You don't seem to understand how modern buildings work. There are strict fresh air/ventilation guidelines that dictate you must have so many fresh air changes circulate throughout the building, you cannot just recycle the same heated air-especially for commercial & industrial buildings! And I know for a FACT this technology excels in climates like Canada, even on cloudy days the solar radiation will still provide some heating benefit. An excellent product, hope to see more innovations like this.

  • They could explain it better for the laymen if they just said it heats up make up air for the building. Ya it works but its getting more hype then it deserves, i know it sound funny but they would be better off covering the entire roof with popcan heaters to add heat to the building.

Agreed. Great design, though. I do agree. I'd most likely insulate it with that distance to the natural gas heating system. Painting it black would most likely increase the temperature for a few additional hours of the day in the winter, but being that far north in Manitoba, the angle of the Sun is low in the winter and wouldn't heat the ducting all day long. I'd most likely insulate it and let the unit on the wall do the preheating.

  • @kylehondarider Because an engineer probably built it....LOL

  • why is the duct not black???

  • The comment about the sun hardly being up in winter is kind of ridiculous too. We're not talking about the high arctic here, but rather southern Manitoba, so the sun is always up for at least 8 hours, even on the shortest day of the year. That part of Manitoba is also very dry so the days are usually very sunny. Considering you need the most heating during the day, when the building is occupied, this makes a lot of sense, especially since it takes no maintenance or energy to run it.

  • why not recirculate and filter the air inside the building.. then you only reheat room temperature air... Most HVAC companies have air handlers that exchange the heat from the air leaving the building with the incoming air to accomplish the same effect. This system only works when the sun is out, being in canada the sun is hardly up during the winter so I fail to see the real usefullness of this "green setup"
