But during the match, i noticed the kendōka had his weapon raised for a while. Couldn't the fencer just lunge to get the point?

dang u have to give credit to the kendo person cuz the shinai is really heavy from just swinging it with ur left hand i think we (kendo) could have won if he used maybe both hands for more stability and speed
