If we feel like the body is rebelling against us or our idea of our identity such as in Clare's text then how do we fight back? Is this clip an example of that? An overcoming or punishment of our inevitably failing, weakening, ageing bodies may seem appropriate. Watching these surfers today made me think about the how when one challenges the body it can actually give a sense of 'aliveness' (the extreme version of jumping into a cold swimming pool). Perhaps it is this acute awareness of body for a short moment that makes us feel like we have won one small battle between us and our ever ageing bodies.

I also love the performative element of this. Everyone stands on a bridge watching them and they line up and wait patiently in the wings until it is time for there solo. Their achievement and failure seems to me to be based on how long they can hog the limelight for.
