Society is the monster. That's the point. The people drive the "monster" to evil for fear of the unknown. The search for truth is the only moral path. Frankenstein was a great depiction of when scientific outpaces human ethics. Not so foreign a concept. I bet Einstein felt a lot like Dr. Frankenstein after Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
