Interactive viewing of soccer. The entire soccer stadium is captured using multiple cameras or a single wide-angle camera. The scene has a lot more pixels than HD. The user can choose a region-of-interest (RoI) to watch, and only the relevant part is transmitted to him/her. An additional thumbnail overview can also be transmitted and aids navigation. If the user does not want to actively navigate and choose the RoI, then the system can choose the RoI automatically; for example, in soccer, the ball can be tracked automatically.
This transmission paradigm requires a feedback channel to receive the user's choice of RoI. It provides virtual pan/tilt/zoom functionality and has applications in several other scenarios apart from interactive viewing of sports events!
