I've always wanted to see that movie for Streep's highly praised acting, but to be honest: After seeing this little part I don't want to see the whole movie anymore. It just horrified me to death. Brilliant acting, almost to outstanding to be real.

Too much blame is being placed on Sophie as the reason why her daughter did not survive the concentration camp. Neither of her children survive. There was no set of rules that you could live by that would help you survive. You were at the mercy of the guards who had very little if any mercy to give.

That is basically an impossible choice. The only justification is that if she does not choose they both die which is unthinkable also. She should have never been put in that position ever, but God works in mysterious ways. LOL! Just kidding. There is no God. People just do horrible things.

It's hard to know a lot of people had to make this kind of choice in general /: It's sad how sick people can be and just how sad life can get, but this is a really important movie to watch.

Maybe, but that was her choice, this would be mine. You're right though: you can't tell what choice you would make under pressure like that. And she chose out of pure panic, so would I and every woman going through that. If I had made her choice, I would never see myself as capable of raising my son with the same love and as a good mother too. I know I sound like a bad person, but everyone's different and this is a choice that should never even have to be made.

If I were the mother, I would have chosen both. I understand her panic, but this... I could never live with myself if I chose one over the other. I would have chose them both.
