In 1987, 11 year old Stephen Wiltshire featured in a BBC documentary, which focused on a small group of autistics with remarkable skills. To the amazement of his schoolteachers, at the age of six, this unhappy, withdrawn, tantrumprone little boy started drawing London buildings from memory, with extraordinary accuracy. The film showed Stephen losing himself in the absorbing task of depicting a controlled a million miles from the anxiety-ridden one he inhabited. Now aged 33 his talent has led to a highly lucrative career, exhibiting and selling his artwork in his own gallery near Trafalgar square. This engrossing film follows Stephen as he returns to school to meet the teachers who encouraged his talents, and embarks on a feat that push even him to his limits - a four meter aerial panorama of London, drawn from memory after a 15-minute helicopter ride. The resulting picture is absolutely astonishing.

  • WOW

  • wow

  • holy fucking tits.

  • Actually, he was quite what we would consider "low-functioning" on the autism spectrum. As a child he had no language, treated people as objects, was essentially mute and often quite sensitive to outer stimuli. That he has overcome that is far more impressive, I think, than his prodigious talent. And as far as most artists falling on the spectrum, I think that yes, quite a few do, but not most.

  • please do not ever again refer to Stephen Wiltshire as a parrot, even though I know that you meant it only on a metaphorical level.

  • WAT DA FUDGE!!?

    that guy its amazing!

  • Actually, Hanna, he's doing exactly what an artist does. Most artists do fall within the autism spectrum. That's what makes them so focused and eclectic.

One of the many traits of autism is the ability to block outter stimuli and zero in on a particular undertaking. This young man most likely has a form of Aspberger syndrome.

Yes, he is an artist. He uses his skill exactly as an artist does.

VanGogh was most definitely an Aspie.

  • i draw good, but im not nearly as good as HIM

  • This guy did NOT invent anything nearly as impressive as Leonardo.

Da Vinci, Gogh, Picasso and Angelo were great artists!!! This guy draws from memory... There is a difference between a songwriter and the guy who can learn songs. This guy is amazing but he can not be compared to artists. Have you read or studied anything on those artists you mentioned? I think that the most amazing people are the artists not the parrots. (although the parrot can remember a lot of things). This is my opinion.
