Frankie Howerd R.I.P. was one of Britain's best stand-up comedians. Casting Howerd as Sir Joseph Porter in this production of H.M.S. Pinafore was a disaster. He treats the part as though it were a pantomime that needs his ad libs and oohs and ahs.

This production was AWFUL!

Yes, I recently read that the overture was cut a little in this film. I'm not as familiar with HMS as some of the other operettas, so I couldn't say for sure.

Yea, my solo (I play Oboe) in the Overture! I also like Ralph's solo at the beginning.

Yes, Pinafore has some brilliant songs and delightful characters. Such a wonderful operetta deserves to be performed well!

I performed this last week in South Australia (as an Oboist). It was fantastic!

Brilliant, but I wish the whole overture could be uploaded. This is one of my favorite G&S overtures!
