The original version of my favourite Billy Joel song played with a reggae beat. According to the booklet that came with the 30th Annversary edition of The Stranger, Liberty DeVitto hated this version so much that he threw his drumsticks at Billy...

No, I don't own the song or any of the rights.

  • I got this version when I purchased My Lives. It's amazing

  • @redmario222 I want My Lives :( Need to save up a bit though... I went a bit crazy on amazon the other day and spent £26 (that I don't have yet... ^^;) on CDs (They all looked so cheap until I added them up! XD)

  • I prefer the other version, but this version is very interesting and makes me smile ( :

    BIG QUESTION MARK HERE

  • Same here, it has something that just makes me NEEEEED to smile and sing along.

As a saxophonist I do kind of miss the solo but his voice is so nice that his little sing-song-y bit in its place is good enough :D

  • its got a pretty good sound. was the original on the demo.i would def listen to it. just shows the talent of billy joels singing

  • This is the best quality version that I could find of this (I've got a reeeeeeally naff one on here somewhere!)

His voice is brilliant on this one - especially the bit in the saxophone solo section ^^ It always makes me smile :)

  • Thank god he fixed this song. As it stands now, it is one of the best of all time. No reggae song can say that.

  • cool bass line

  • the box set was missing some rarities. not cool.

  • Billy's best hands down Anthony's song

  • Whoa! This is awesome The McCartneys woulda loved this. This woulda been his Haitian Divorce. I just got one of those old Solid State radio/record/8track players from a Goodwill. Thank God I kept my 52nd Street 8 track! Zanzibar shoulda been a Steely Dan song
