The Louisiana State Museum will open the one-of-a-kind "Living with Hurricanes: Katrina and Beyond" exhibition on October 26, 2010, at the Presbytere on Jackson Square in New Orleans. The $7.5-million installation is the largest ever about hurricanes and focuses on the history of major tropical cyclone around the Gulf Coast region. The exhibit uses Hurricane Katrina and its devastating affect on Louisiana to tell the story of what really happened before, during, and after the storm -- examining the science behind the levee failures, coastal erosion, and sea level rise. It also offers hope for the future by focusing on the citizen-led recovery that led to the reinvention of New Orleans as a better place than it was prior to the storm while highlighting the resilience of the people of the Gulf Coast region.
